On the remote Island Rokkenjima, owned by the old and dying man, Kinzo Ushiromiya, the annual family conferance is about to take place. One of the young cousins in the family Battler, is back for the first time in six years, and he slowly understands that a lot has changed there.
Battler’s father and his siblings quarells over the right to take over after their father, Kinzo dies, and there is also a new portrait in the main house, of a beautiful foreign woman named Beatrice, and under her picture, there is a riddle set up by Kinzo, and it is said that the one who solves it will become the new head of the family, and inherit the gold that Kinzo claims to have once gotten from the golden witch Beatrice.
“My beloved hometown, the sweetfish river running through it.
You who seek the Golden Land, follow its path downstream and seek the key.
If you follow the river downstream, you will find a village.
In the village, look for the shore the two will tell you of.
There sleeps the key to the Golden Land.
He who lays hand upon the key shall travel under the rules below.
At the first twilight, you shall lift up as sacrifice the six chosen by the key.
At the second twilight, the surviving shall tear apart the two who are close.
At the third twilight, the surviving shall praise my honorable name on high.
At the fourth twilight, gouge the head and kill.
At the fifth twilight, gouge the chest and kill.
At the sixth twilight, gouge the stomach and kill.
At the seventh twilight, gouge the knee and kill.
At the eighth twilight, gouge the leg and kill.
At the ninth twilight, the Witch shall be revived and none shall be left alive.
At the tenth twilight, the journey shall end and you should reach the village of gold.
The Witch will praise the wise, and should bestow four treasures.
One shall be, all the gold from the Golden Land.
One shall be, the resurrection of the souls of all the dead.
One shall be, even the resurrection of the lost love.
One shall be, to put the Witch to sleep for all time.
Sleep peacefully, my most beloved witch, Beatrice.“
But as a terrible storm closes in, Kinzo yells out his challenge for the island’s ghost witch Beatrice whom he claims was once his true love, and the battle between illusions and reality begins.
The people on the island is killed one after another according to the riddle, and if they can’t figure out who the true culprit can be by the last twillight, the golde witch Beatrice will revive, and take the survivors to the Golden land.

What I love about Umineko is that it mixes two of my favorite genres, one is crime and the other is fantasy, but the big goal of this game is to be skeptic to the fantasy part, even as magic and witches seems so real, there is always ways of denying it and still claim that the killer or killers are human.
If you have any knowledge of Higurashi you know how this will go. As the two days in the secluded storm ends, none are left alive, and no one never finds out just what happened in the two days on Rokkenjima. But after entering the Golden Land, Battler still does not want to believe the witch Beatrice exists, and she challenges him to a game to either prove or dissprove magic, and if Battler can deny witches completely, Beatrice will die.
The chess board is set up for new games, and Beatrice sets up the murders and stories of alternative ways the two days played out, and Battler has to figure out who the killer is, before he has to admit that only a witch could have done it.
I have just come to the sixt game, and I just have to say that the ending of the fifth one was AWSOME!!!! Beside the visual novel games for this, there is also motion graphics that was sold at comiket, and I have watched all of them for a while now, and I saw the one with the story for the fifth game and it looked awsome! But it is twice as awsome when you read and listen to the visual novel! The music is awsome, the pictures are nice to look at, and the mood is set right from the 
start! It is true that the art for the characters aren’t that good, but you will get used to it right away and not really care about it. You can of course check out the anime or manga, I haven’t read much of the manga, but the anime was really bad X(. It cut out a lot, and if you just look at the anime I think you might lose a lot of the story and character development. (GOAT-KUN!!!)
I have a lot of Umineko videos in my youtube, and I’ll post some of them here! For me Umineko is a summer thing, since I started with it two summers ago, and I can also remember that I started to bond with one of the persons that later became a really good friend of mine because we both started to talk about Umineko and Higurashi=) Good and treasured memories thanks to blood and mutilations=) And it was thanks to the anime ending that I discovered Sound Horizon, since Jimang sings the ending song ^-^
This is the introes of the visual novels, and under here is the motion graphics, be warned that the motion graphics does contain spoilers! And just for the record, since the fifth motion graphic is mostly just a recap, the things that happens in the sixth motion graphic is acctually the story for the fifth visual novel! (I didn’t know this and was a little confused) and it does mean that none of these probably gives away what happens in the last episode.
